Our Wedding

Rafael and Linda’s story began long before either of them realized it.One afternoon on campus, Rafael turned to his classmate as Linda walked by and quietly said, “This is what you have to look for when you want to find a wife.” Moments later, as they crossed paths on their way to class, their eyes met. Until then, Rafael had always thought love at first sight was nothing more than a romantic cliché. But in that instant, something changed. It was a feeling he couldn’t explain then and still can’t fully explain today. All he knew was that, for the first time, he understood that someone could fall in love at first sight.As fate would have it, the two were in the same International Relations class. Their story unfolded through weekly discussion posts, thoughtful debates, and the quiet curiosity of two people who destiny intended to draw toward one another.Linda was usually the first to submit her weekly discussion posts and would later return to read the comments. Before long, she began to notice Rafael’s name appearing on her replies. His thoughts were sharp, his arguments were intriguing, and his critiques had a way of challenging her perspective with just enough confidence to be both impressive and deeply frustrating. She couldn’t help but wonder who had the audacity to dissect her arguments week after week.Naturally, Linda had to know who he was. In true Gen Z fashion, she looked him up on Instagram to put a face to the name. She followed him, and Rafael took the initiative to start a conversation that neither of them knew would last forever.After finals, he asked her to coffee at Chambers Bay, which became the beginning of many adventures and challenges. With the water beside them and the day unfolding slowly, they talked with an ease that felt rare. What began as class debate softened into laughter, connection, and the feeling that something meaningful had quietly begun.From a life-changing gaze to academic discussion posts and discovering that the world was their oyster, Rafael and Linda’s story has always been guided by fate, their mutual pursuit of excellence, and the quiet certainty that they had found something truly special.

GETTING TO THE PACIFIC NORTHWESTIf you are traveling to our wedding from outside the Seattle area, you’ll want to fly into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac - SEA).

GETTING TO ROCHE HARBOR VIA FERRYFerries to San Juan Island depart from Anacortes, which is a 2-2.5 hour drive north of SeaTac airport. Depart from Anacortes and arrive in Friday Harbor. Roche Harbor is about a 20 minute drive from the ferry terminal. If you plan on driving your car onto the ferry, reservations are HIGHLY recommended! You will need to make reservations for both your arrival and departure trips. When you are driving a car onto the ferry, you should arrive at least 45-60 minutes early in order to be fully checked in 30 minutes prior to sailing. If you miss the 30 minute cutoff, you will lose your reservation and be grouped in with the standby cars (aka you may wait for hours to get on/off island).

If you're lodging in Friday Harbor and don't have a car, there are a few ways of getting across the island to Roche Harbor (the wedding venue) as Ubers are not available on the island. The Friday Harbor Jolly Trolley offers a “Roche Harbor Express” shuttle running between Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor throughout the day.

While there are many different types of accommodations available at Roche Harbor (from single rooms to multiple bedroom houses), the majority of their lodging options are multiple bedroom units, so please consider sharing lodging with other family or friends. All reservations here require a 2-night minimum stay. Lodging

Many visitors find Scenic Washington Byway route the best way to wander around the islands with stops at English Camp, San Juan County Park, Lime Kiln Point State Park, and American Camp.

Enjoy a true island dining experience at Tide Tables, with waterfront tables, panoramic views, and their famous grilled oysters. Guests can learn to shuck fresh oysters, watch shellfish harvested just steps away, and enjoy a seasonal menu featuring local island farms, bakeries, beer, and wine.

Located in Friday Harbor, The Whale Museum is a sweet stop for guests interested in orcas, marine life, and the Salish Sea. Its mission is focused on whale and Salish Sea education and research, and the National Park Service notes that visitors can learn about the whales that call these waters home.

Wander the lavender fields at Alchemy’s Field CampusThe former Pelindaba Lavender Farm site is now part of Alchemy Art Center’s Field Campus, where guests can walk the lavender fields, visit the store, and explore local art. Alchemy notes that the fields are free to walk year-round, with peak bloom in late July.&nbsp;
